Ox Bile Extract Powder (Grass fed) is a natural supplement derived from the bile of bovine, offering a range of nutrients and vitamins that promote your pet’s overall health. It supports optimal digestive function by aiding in the breakdown and absorption of fats. Easily digestible for pets, it is generally well-tolerated and free from significant side effects. Bile, produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder, plays a crucial role in digestion. Once released into the small intestine, bile acids assist in breaking down fats and help remove toxins from the body. These toxins are typically flushed out through urine. However, if bile production is reduced or obstructed, toxins may begin to accumulate within the body, leading to potential health complications. If you notice any signs of digestive distress or suspect a bile-related issue, it’s essential to consult with your veterinarian promptly to ensure early detection and effective treatment.
- Improved Digestion: Ox bile extract supports the breakdown of fats in the digestive system. Dogs with insufficient bile production may struggle with fat digestion, leading to issues such as weight loss or malnutrition. Supplementing with ox bile can help improve the digestion and absorption of fats and fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K).
- Relieves Digestive Discomfort: If a dog suffers from conditions like bloating, indigestion, or constipation, ox bile extract can assist in promoting smoother digestion and regular bowel movements by aiding fat emulsification.
- Supports Liver Health: Bile is produced by the liver and plays an essential role in detoxification. Ox bile extract can support liver function and assist in the removal of toxins from the dog’s body, particularly if the liver is under stress or not functioning optimally.
- Helps with Pancreatic Insufficiency: Some dogs suffer from exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI), where the pancreas does not produce enough enzymes to digest food properly. Ox bile can help supplement this deficiency by enhancing fat digestion, thus improving nutrient absorption.
- Aids in Fat Metabolism: For dogs that need help processing dietary fats, ox bile extract can improve fat metabolism, which can support weight management and prevent excess fat accumulation in the body.
- Prevents Gallbladder Issues: The extract can help promote healthy bile production, potentially preventing or alleviating issues related to the gallbladder, such as gallstones or bile sludge.
- Supports Gut Motility: Bile plays a role in stimulating normal peristalsis (intestinal motility), which helps move food and waste through the digestive tract. This can be especially important for dogs with SIBO, as impaired motility can worsen bacterial overgrowth by allowing food and bacteria to stagnate in the intestines.
- Promotes Detoxification: Ox bile is involved in detoxifying the body by aiding in the removal of toxins through bile. For dogs with SIBO, reducing the buildup of toxins and waste products can help support overall digestive health and reduce inflammation in the gut.
- Helps Balance Gut Flora: Although ox bile extract itself isn’t a direct treatment for SIBO, its role in fat digestion can indirectly help maintain a balanced environment in the small intestine. By improving digestion and motility, it may help prevent conditions that favor the overgrowth of harmful bacteria.
- Encourages Weight Loss: For obese pets, ox bile extract may assist in weight management by improving fat digestion and metabolism. This can help prevent obesity-related health issues and encourage a healthier weight, especially for dogs prone to gaining weight due to slow metabolism or poor digestion. Â
- Lowers Cholesterol Levels: Ox bile extract has the potential to lower cholesterol levels in a pet’s bloodstream and body tissues. This effect can be beneficial for pets at risk of heart disease, offering a natural remedy to support cardiovascular health and possibly reducing the risk of certain types of cancers that can be influenced by cholesterol imbalances. Â
- Reduces Inflammation: Ox bile extract can help reduce inflammation by decreasing free radicals in the body. Chronic inflammation is associated with conditions like arthritis, hip dysplasia, osteoarthritis, and joint pain. By lowering inflammation, ox bile may help relieve discomfort and improve mobility in pets suffering from these issues. Â

Ox bile is a complex mixture of proteins, lipids, and other compounds found naturally in healthy animals, including cows (ox). It is produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder (common bile duct), where it plays a critical role in the digestive process. Bile helps the body break down and emulsify fats, which aids in the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients and energy storage. The ox bile supplement for dogs contains chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA), an active ingredient that is essential in fat digestion. CDCA is produced by bacteria within the bile ducts of livestock animals, including pigs, sheep, and horses, and is an integral component of ox bile. This acid helps in the emulsification of dietary fats, allowing the body to absorb and utilize them efficiently. Since ox bile is derived from animal bile, it contains a variety of enzymes, bile acids, and essential minerals that contribute to proper digestion. These elements help pets break down fats, support liver function, improve digestion, and prevent digestive issues. This makes ox bile extract a useful supplement for dogs, especially those with digestive disorders such as exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) or those who have difficulty processing fats. It also aids in supporting overall digestive health and ensuring the efficient absorption of nutrients.

If you notice any kind of digestive distress, reduce the dosage gradually to check how much your dog can tolerate. In case the digestive distress continues, discontinue use.
Start with a small pinch and increase to recommended dosage.
If you do not notice improvement on the recommended dosage, increase the dosage to check if your dog’s body requires more of the supplement.
*Split into 1 or 2 main meals – depending on how often you feed your dog.
*Extracts are sensitive to heat and moisture – handle with care to prevent the powder from getting sticky.
*If it comes in contact with your fingers, please wash your hands immediately. While the supplement will cause no harm and it is human grade, you might not be able to tolerate the bitterness.
Do not use in cases of:
– Dogs with Gallbladder or Bile Duct Obstructions: If your dog has an obstruction or disease affecting the gallbladder or bile ducts (such as biliary disease), ox bile may exacerbate the condition, as it could increase bile flow or place additional stress on these organs.
Dogs with Pancreatitis: Pancreatitis, which involves inflammation of the pancreas, may not respond well to bile supplementation. In some cases, bile acids can irritate the pancreas, worsening the condition.
Severe Liver Disease: While ox bile can support liver function, dogs with severe liver disease may have trouble processing bile or bile acids. In cases of liver failure or compromised liver function, ox bile could further stress the liver and be unsuitable.
Hypersensitivity or Allergies: If your dog has a known allergy/ sensitivity to bovine products or animal-based supplements, ox bile extract should be avoided, as it may cause an allergic reaction. Recommendation would be to try a small dose of the product, monitor reaction and proceed accordingly.
Dog with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD): In some cases, bile supplementation can increase the rate of digestion, which may exacerbate diarrhea or gastrointestinal irritation in dogs with conditions like IBD.
Young Puppies: Younger dogs, especially puppies, may not need ox bile extract unless recommended by a veterinarian, as their digestive systems are often still developing, and supplementation may disrupt this process.
Pregnant or Nursing dogs: While there is no definitive evidence that ox bile is harmful to pregnant or nursing dogs, it is always best to avoid unnecessary supplements during these periods unless specifically recommended by a veterinarian.
